"I saw
resistance, rebellion, self-love, and girls interested in reading,
studying, confronting injustice. In short, this film is subtle, moving,
nuanced, powerful, and right on. What I love so much about the film is
that every topic I am concerned about, every topic I teach about,
appears in the film."

Girlhood: Rescuing Our Daughters from Marketers' Schemes
The Outreach and Community Engagement Campaign for GOING ON 13
consists of three equally important parts: festival screenings and
public television broadcast, community screenings, and an interactive,
social-network website for girls. This page is dedicated to
sharing with you some ways that you can use the film in your home,
school, and community.
We want you to USE the film - in your classrooms and school districts, in
your universities, in your home, and in your after-school programs - with
girls, your students, your staff, your local politicians and your
friends and family. GOING ON 13 presents an alternate and perhaps
more realistic view of girls and their families in our urban
communities. Screening the film in all of the ways that you can,
will ignite a dialogue and support all our efforts to 1) Create a space
for girls to share their experiences of puberty - as experts on their
own lives; 2) Engage girls and those who care about them in an
inter-generational dialog; and 3) Inspire communities to develop
programs, policies and spaces that listen to the real needs of real
girls.
Dawn and Kristy are available to participate in a screening for a small
fee and the cost of the film. We also know great youth
development organizations all over the USA who may be interested in
co-hosting a screening. Contact us for more information at info@goingon13.com
Check for screenings and stay tuned for more info, or sign
